Which Hawaiian island would be best for me?
flaskim715 asked:
Currently living in south FLA. I love to skimboard, try to surf, fishing is my passion..i like boating, and one day would love to own my own watercraft rental company. I am young, i love to party. I am hoping to go to school [univers. or community] and study either business, or firefighting. I want to be close to the beach. I am a relaxed person, will the locals harass me?? i wont know another soul there.
I am perfectly content loungin around most the day, but at night i do like to go out and have fun.
where do you think i would be best suited?
i want to be somewhere calm, but with employment opportunities. also, how would i go about finding roommates?

I think that O’ahu sounds most for you.
There is almost a million peopleon O’ahu and it is more of the big city style living,..with universities and a big night life.
It is still Hawaii so you have the beaches and surfshops and stuff like that. There are places all around the island to fish and learn how to surf, etc.
I am a big city person and prefer O’ahu just for the night life and people. Waikiki is great and most of the people are fun and kind and like to laugh..and sometimes laugh at the white people trying to say some hawaiian words..but thats not a big deal.

If you are plannig to go to college, your greatest options will be on Oahu. We have public & private universities, community colleges, & business & technical schools. Hilo has a university branch of UH. On Maui & Kauai there are community colleges.
If you are a relaxed person, the chance of being harrassed by locals is not great (just don’t drop into someone’s wave when you are learning to surf!)
There will be classified ads for sharing apts in the local newspapers (Honolulu Advertiser & Star Bulliten) as well as on craig’s list.
Good luck w/ your move!
