Vacation in Hawaii or California?
TL asked:
I am looking to go on vacation in either Hawaii or California this summer but don’t know much of anything about either. I have done some research but I have just gotten overwhelmed. I really don’t want to spend alot of money but everything I look at is soo expensive. I can’t decide if I should stay over the weekend or just stay during the week…I have read thats its cheaper to fly out during the week but I don’t see much of a difference in price. I plan on going on vacation alone and just want to relax, shop for cheap souvenirs, see beautiful scenery, and eat some good food. My big thing is that I want to see the sunrise on the beach on my birthday (July 1st) which is why I have chosen these locations. Any advice would be appreciated!

I love San Diego I think it is a better value for your vacation. There is a place called La Jolla Cove where baby/adult seals sleep on the edge of the water at night – You can walk within feet of them. The sky is clear, and the water is gorgeous. Ocean Beach has tons of Souvenir shops where you can get lots of “cheap” gifts to bring back. Mission Beach has a Roller Coaster near the water which is pretty fun. You can see pretty sunsets from just about any beach. Pacific beach is where all your nightlife would be. Not mentioning Downtown which is also obviously filled with entertainment. There is tons to do, and its cheaper to fly/stay there than Hawaii. Cabrillo National Monument is very pretty scenery right next to a submarine base which is also interesting to look upon. Another awesome place to go there is it costs nothing to go in look around its so great in the summer. beautiful park with lots to see.
Food recommendation for cheap awesome burritos go to Alderbertos off Rosecrans st. they have HUGE California burritos. Sushi Itto is also great. In N out burger is cheap good Cali fast food. If you never had Jamba Juice they are everywhere there, and taste awesome. if you’re looking for a place a little fancier with great atmosphere.

I have lived in both places, and yes Hawaii is very expensive, however there are some great airfare specials on Aloha and Hawaiian Airlines from the west coast. Speaking of the west coast, you will not be seeing the sunrise from any beaches in California, only the sunset. You can certainly see the sunrise on the beaches in Hawaii.. from the east facing shores.
