Trip to Hawaii?
andayam@pacbell.net asked:
We are planning a family trip to Hawaii. We have a 10-year-old child. Which would be the best place for us? I’m thinking Maui? Recommendations? We are a low-key family; we just want some beach time, and a few activities/sight-seeing tours.

I have a cousin who lives in Maui. He says it’s very family oriented.

it’s really nice there… you’ll like it, if you’re looking for a quiet time, go to the big island ( hawaii ). either kona or hilo. lots of sight seeing, and you can take a day trip around the entire island!! really fun. the only thing about maui is is that if you’re planning on going to hana, the roads are very very windy, back and forth, but some of the views are the BEST! you will get a headache, i thought i wouldn’t but on the way back i couldn’t handle it… just something to consider for your child. my brother is 10 and he got sick, so did my mom… all of the islands are very very nice, but how busy each are, it depends on the island.
hope this helps!!!
have a nice trip!!!

ive been to 4 of the islands
maui was one of my favorite
but there is more to do and see on oahu
wakiki is in oahu and is one of the best beaches ive ever been to.
you can climb diamond head in oahu (its close to the beach, once your done, you can go straight to the beach)
you can learn to surf on waikiki, there are many instuctors along the beach.
parasailing is so much too, also you can snokel.
the snokeling is hawaii is amazing. you’ll see tons of exotic tropical fish. i also took a submarine ride that took you towards the botttom of the ocean
if i were you, don’t go to the big island.
you said you want beaches and there isn’t a lot of beaches on the big island. its more volcanic and rocky

Lahaina, Kaanapalii and Kihei on Maui have beautiful. calm beaches that aren’t as crowded as those on Oahu. Your hotel concierge can tell you where the better beaches are. Lifeguards are NOT stationed at all beaches. Make sure you never lose sight of your child (and spouse) while he/she is in the ocean.
Oahu has some great beaches but they tend to be crowded. Go to Waikiki, Ala Moana, Bellows, Kailua and Kaneohe.
The local TV stations usually warn you that Portuguese man-o-war appear about 8-10 days after a full moon. They are very pretty but you’ll regret it if you touch them.
All islands will have activities and tours, but Oahu has the most variety. You will have a great time regardless of the island you end up on. Each island is different.
Hawaii has criminals, just like your city does. Don’t make it easy for them. Never leave valuables in the car glove compartment or trunk. Never walk in the parks or on the beaches at night.

I always saw kids and adults at Cove Park in Maui. You can take surfing lessons there. There is a skateboarding area. Little shops and places to eat are close.
