mostly, oahu *****. i don’t live there, i live on maui, but honolulu is basically l.a. on a rock. also, hawaii is not the best place for ur children to get an education, unless you want to pay for private or online school. people are generallyfriendly once you have moved there but mokes can be a bit mean to the haoles, not so much that you wouldhave to worry about it. haha. it cracks me up when ppl think we dont speak english or we live in grass huts or something. gurlie, even the hawaiians don’t speak hawaiian. there are a lot of ppl that speak korean, or japanese. its not worth it to have a house o the beach. u can walk from plenty places. weather is flooding in the winter, and sunny and hot in the summer. if you wat to move to hawaii, i suggest any other island than oahu. big island is up-ad-coming but still cheap. maui is good, but expensive.

i wanna know how it is to live in oahu is it safe? Yes, it is safe. The violent crime rate is very low, but the property crime rate is higher. I feel safe walking alone most places, most times of day or night.
is it fun all year long? If you could be here on vacation all year long, I’m sure it would be. But when you work, have to care for a house & kids, fight traffic, etc. it isn’t fun all the time. It’s still a good place to live.
ARE PEOPLE FREINDLY? For the most part, yes. There can be some tension between “locals” & “mainland haoles”, but if you treat others well you usually can get along with most folks. Actually, the people are one of the main reasons I love living here.
is it a good place to raise kids cuz i got 2? Yes, I think it is a great place to raise kids. My kids worry about being able to afford living here & both talk about how this is the best place possible to raise a family.
most importently do most people and business talk english or hawaiin Folks speak English. Very few people actually speak Hawaiian. Many people speak “pidgin”, a local dialect which developed from plantation llife where people who spoke many different languages all needed to be able to communicate.
and is it expensive to live there ? Yes, very expensive.
is the weather good The weather is usually very nice. It can rain a lot some winters, but that is better than snow!
and is it worth it to get a house infront of the beach is that expensive ? Not many folks can afford beachfront homes. I wish I could!

for schools in Hawaii, lol let me tell you, I went from 4th grade in Detroit to here in the islands, once tested they bumped me up a grade. yes private schools is best, here on the big island there is a lot of home schooling going on, for lack of good schools. the weather, well it has been a wet winter here, but thats the worst of it, its still warm even the rain is warm. sure you can buy a house on the beach, if ya got a million or so. people here are very friendly, just treat everyone the way you like to be treated. Oahu is very crowed, traffic can be worse than LA at times. they do have a 12 lane freeway going to the Waianae coast, depending on where you’ll work is the best place to look for a house, if ya have to live on Oahu the the windward side is best, Kaneohe- Kailua, remeber you won’t have heating or ac bills to worry about

Living in Hawaii is very doable if you have children, however, it is not cheap.
Living here in Hawaii is like living anywhere else except that we live on an island so everything that we do is controlled by that fact. We cannot jump in a car and go to the next state (or even the next island). We must fly everywhere and pay fares accordingly.
Yes, people are friendly but only if you are friendly in return. If you have a an open mind and are respectful of our local culture, you’ll do fine.
As for us speaking English, yes, we speak English. You’ll find that in business settings, most of us speak English. Most local people are also capable of speaking Hawaii Creole English (HCE) which is commonly known as pidgin english but please don’t try to speak pidgin by yourself, you’ll only end up sounding silly unless a local teaches you how themselves.
The weather is great most of the time but is controlled by tradewinds and affected by wind patterns directly. We’ve had a pretty rainy “winter” so far with massive flooding and rain but it’s pretty nice right now.
As far as housing, if you want to live on the beach, don’t expect to pay anything less than $1M for a small house (IF you can find one available). Single family homes start from about $500K and have a wide price range depending on location, age, and size of the house. It’s currently a buyer’s market right now as we are heading towards a recesssion so there are a number of good deals still to be had if you are looking to buy.
I would strongly suggest you check out BEFORE you decide to move here. You’ll be able to see what is available for rent/sale as well as check out the local job market. I would strongly advise you to find a job and have a place to live before you move out here as both the job market and rental market are highly competitive.
Hope that helps you…..good luck!

“live in oahu is it safe?” Safe as to what? We have crime, murders, rape, burglary, just like anywhere else.
“is it fun all year long?” there are plenty of FREE activities throughout the year ( but after the 2nd year it gets boring)
“ARE PEOPLE FREINDLY?” Only in Waiki, they are paid to be nice to the tourist, but once you are a resident, they are not so nice, unless you have family or friends here that you know.
“is it a good place to raise kids cuz i got 2?” Sure, if you want your kids education to be way behind than mainland kids(public school is behind and they suck) or send them to a $7000 a yr private school (then they will be even with the mainland kids)
” most importently do most people and business talk english or hawaiin?” It’s primerialy English, but with all the Asian influence, there are diferent languages spoken,
so the Hawaiians abdapted to it and made their own language “Pidgin” which is broken English, Portaugese, Asian, Puerto Rican. it sounds like, uneducated fresh off the boat broken, mispronounced English.
“and is it expensive to live there?” Yes, the average family of 3 makes about $60,000 a yr, and thats both parents working one or 2 jobs.
“is the weather good ?”
It is always hot here, in the high 80′s but with the high humidity of 85% and up, the weather feels like upper high 90′s. Even when we have heavy rains, it’s still in the high 70′s or low 80′s and you sweat (houses do not come standard with A/C)
“is it worth it to get a house infront of the beach is that expensive?” Good luck, beach front property starts at a Million and up (talkin shacks, not custom homes, they are much much more)
Hope I answered all. Best bet do not move to Hawaii…just come for a VACATION!!!!

Oahu isn’t bad. our state has crime and all but no so bad as the other states. there are lots of good schools 4 ur children. if u are looking 4 a private school check all school and compare tuition. public schools aren’t too bad. facilities could use a makeover. people are friendly here. there are so many ethic groups and that is what makes hawaii special. english is the most used language out here. hawaiian, japanese, and other languages are spoken but usually english. a house in front the beach may be expensive if u look around. check out the classifieds. weather is usually mild, hot, and raining sometimes. usually hot.

All of your questions depend on the area where you live. If you stay out of Kalihi and don’t go too far west after dark you’d be safe. Everyone speaks English except for some old Japanese and Chinese people.
A beachfront home will cost well over a million dollars, no matter where it is. All of the beaches here are public and have right of ways leading from the street. I wouldn’t live near the ocean anyways. You’d have to worry about your kids wandering off, and you get a sticky layer of moisture and sea salt on everything.
