We stayed in Maui couple years back, going back this year. Lahaina is FANTASTIC! There is a wonderful restaurant called Roy’s! They will treat you like gold! Great shopping area with (of course) a Bubba Gumps, Hard Rock Cafe’, Great art galleries. You want to go snorkeling, and there is a great **** beach. Ask the locals about it. Hope you have a GREAT time! We will be there right after you! :>)

Have alot of relatives who live there and the best thing to do is ask the locals- they know everything! My mom is from there and I’ve been there many times- so beautiful.

Go to Kapula Bay, Lahina town, Big beach on the east end of the island, Napili Point and bay is fantastic.

I have only stayed in Kihei, but I did drive to Kapalua. Wherever you are staying, ask the front desk or stop someplace and ask ANY front desk for a map of beaches. They are listed differently… some are good sand beaches, some are good swimming beaches, snorkeling beaches, even kids’ beaches.

As far as shopping goes, be sure you go to the swap meet in Kahului. It’s every Saturday from 7am until noon, and it is the BEST place to get great deals on authentic Hawaiian goods… crafts, gifts, foods, etc. Plus plenty of useless things that you just can’t find in other parts of the world! :) The swap meet is located on South Puunene Ave. next to the Kahului Post Office, and I believe admission is 50 cents. If you need more info, wherever you are staying will be able to provide it, as that is a well-known swap meet.

I didn’t go to too many restaurants when I was there; just ate lots of Costco food and had a really awful meal in Kihei at a cafe. I suggest asking locals, and if you are into sushi especially, get some pointers from locals. Everyone is really nice and easygoing.

Good luck and have a blast! Beautiful island!

All of the beaches are great for swimming, just remember one Important thing…if there are no locals in the water, it is for a reason!! Don’t go in! As for dining, it really depends on what you want. Places like Roy’s are good however they are really expensive. In the Lahaina area there are places like Lahaina Fish Company that have great fresh fish, Kimo’s has good bar food, if it is still around…Cool Cats has awesome burgers. You Have to try Aloha Mixed Plate for real local food. In Wailuku there is a shack, literally, called the Pulehu Shack that has the best bbq I have ever tasted! In Kihei, Marco’s has the best breakfast on the island. Stella Blues has awesone Everything, you can’t go wrong there. Also in Kihei there is Da Kitchen that has great local style food. If you go to Hana, stop in Kaenae for the best banana bread on Earth!
Have Fun! Can you tell I miss Maui?

I live Maui and my fav beach is airport beach just minutes away from Kapalua, in Kaanapalli. It is a beach park next to the new Westin resort they just built.Where you are you can go to Kapalua bay or Napili bay, both are great but very crowded. For shopping, go to whalers village or front street in Lahaina. For groceries, go to either Costco, or Safeway or Foodland. For restaurants, go to Sansei or Pineapple Grill in Kapalua.Just be respectful to the people that live here, do not be in a hurry, and you will have an awesome time, Aloha.
