How do I go about returning sand back to Hawaii?

redbaron1625 asked:

I recently left the military after my contract was all up. I kept some of the sand and brought it back. I remembered that I forgot to ask permission for it. As I have lived in hawaii for about 8 yrs I know that it is sacred to the islands, and that you are suppost to ask for permission from the gods before taking something from there. If this is not done first, It also carries a curse with it. So was wondering how to get it back. I also know that it must go back to the specific beach area that I got it from. I have no money to fly back there either.

There are no Hawaiian gods, so don’t sweat it.

  2. Effie ↑ Says:

You can’t just send it back. You already took it without permission. You’re screwed.

  3. Gypsy Says:

I’m pretty sure there is an organization that you can mail it to and they put the sand back (Don’t know the name, but I’ve heard of it). A lot of people have had this problem with taking rocks from a volcano in Hawaii and then wanting to return them because they believe they are cursed.

  4. Silver Says:

It is sand- just sand- and you are not cursed. If things are going wrong in your life, it is NOT because you stole sand. Chill.

why would anyone keep sand? needed to keep your hourglass running?

too bad you don’t have the money. i’d be more than happy to take it back for you…

  6. Sophia M Says:

    The hell? It’s just sand.

But if you feel so strongly about it you could just throw it into the sea and hope that it washes back onto the shore of Hawaii?…I mean, if you truly believe the sand is “cursed” or something.

  7. Elaine DeCarmo Says:

I really wouldn’t worry about it. If the Gods know you took the sand, they also know you have a good heart. If it bothers you that much, you can send it to me. I live in Honolulu.

you shouldnt have taken taht sand in teh first place. but iguess i woudl come up with some ritual of respecting the hawaiian gods that is easier than returning the sand

  9. interested1208 Says:

I understand sending it the the Parks service in Hawaii may do it. They receive stuff all the time… but I thought that only had to do with the volcanos and Pele not the beach sand…

  10. Diane the Succubus (PFLAG) Says:

While I do not believe in curses and such, I do know people mail rocks etc. taken from Hawaii back every year…

    Postmaster Generals Office

They ask that you include a letter stating where exactly the item came from if possible… If you don’t remember the name of the beach but can use a map to approximate it (I.E. enclose a map with a dot or X on the spot) that’s good enough for them, they will return it to the area you indicate…
