Hawaiian honeymoon?
sari asked:
My fiance and I are considering Hawaii for our honeymoon. From what I understand, it is beautiful year round. I wonder if there is a particular island that is better in September though. Or is it better to go to more than one location? We’re looking for a relaxed/lounging at the beach vacation, with some activities to mix it up (hiking, snorkeling etc). Sorry, I know this is a lot, but one more question…should we go for 2 weeks or 3 weeks? Thanks!!
Re Brutally Honest…I’m really hoping not to feel exhausted at the end of the trip!!
Ms. Nguyen…that’s a great find. Awesome nightly rate. Thanks!

Hawaii is beautiful…and the thing I like most about it is you get to go to this beautiful location…and not have to worry about a passport!
I, personally, would want to see at least a couple of the islands…the main island, oahu, and maui…and depending on how much you’re planning on spending…hawaii is pretty costlly…I think 2 weeks is long enough…even if money is not an obstacle! 3 weeks would just be too long for me!

If you want laid back, I recommend Kauai. That island is ALL about relaxation! But there’s still plenty to do and see if you don’t want to sit around the whole time.
The Big Island is gorgeous, but with the volcano activity going on right now, the Hilo side might not be the best thing to contemplate, but who knows what it’ll be like in a few months’ time.
Oahu is a LOT of fun! There’s more to do and see there then you can imagine (or possibly DO) in a week! But if you’re looking to relax, maybe Oahu isn’t the place to go.
I’ve heard Maui is also very nice for vacationing, but I can only speak for the first 3 listed above. Do your research online… there are ENDLESS resources! It’s how my husband and I planned our 2nd honeymoon…we spent 2 weeks island-hopping. It was fun but exhausting!
EDIT: My point being — in reference to one part of your inquiry — is that island-hopping IS exhausting. If you want to hop, expect to be tired! If you want to relax, try Kauai (as I mentioned).

My fiance and I are going to Kauai for our honeymoon. From what I heard, it is breathtaking, and more chill than the other, more popular islands. It is less crowded, but there is still all the hawaii stuff you can do- snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, ziplining, luau etc. My fiance and I are into the night life scene (since we’re honeymooning… we’d rather stay inside…) But if you are more into night life, clubs and the sort, then Maui is good for that.
Anytime is a good time for a honeymoon in Hawaii… granted the winter months can have a little more rain and wind, but you are in great by choosing to go in September…
3 weeks is a long time. I’d probably go for 2 if I could (we’re going for 9 days) because that’s enough time to experience a lot, and leave on a good note, rather than the “I am sick of living out of my suitcase and can’t wait to get home” note…
We found a REALLY great place to stay, cheap and beautiful on the south side of the island… Take a look. Hope this helps!!

I used to live in Hawaii. All islands are beautiful and the weather is the same on all islands. As for which one to go to
Oahu has more nightlife and shopping (designer shopping) and is more touristy than the other islands but there are some great sites too (Diamond Head, North Shore, Pearl Harbor, etc.)
Big Island is just that, the biggest island. The volcano is still active on this island which you can go and see the flowing lava…that’s a reason to go to this island alone. That and the beautiful black sand beaches.
Maui and Kaui are more green (Kauai being more lush and relaxing, in my opinion) both these islands are known for their great hiking trails and tropical rainforests.
2 weeks is plenty of time to visit Hawaii..if you plan to island hop to more than 2 islands then you might want to stay a lil’ longer but you definetly can enjoy Hawaii in 2 weeks!

We were thinking about doing Hawaii for two weeks as well, but the volcanic activity is causing us to rethink our plans. I would **** to fly all that way and miss the opportunity to check out the lava fields. We might save it for an anniversary trip or a family vacation in a couple of years unless the rift activity subsides.
I’m curious to check back on this one though, if somebody else has more information!
Bst wishes!!!!!!!

We never got a honeymoon thanks to the military so we’re taking a late one this upcoming Christmas when he comes home. We’re staying at a B&B on the mountain side of Kona on the Big Island. OUr room has a kitchenette and is only $107/night. If you don’t want a kitchenette the room are $87/night. We’re hoping to relax too. The nice thing about Kona is that even though its a tourist spot, where we’re staying away from that. Plus you get the mountains AND the beach so you can hike and snorkle too. And if the volcano settles down you can go see that too.
