Hawaii coastline?

So a few months ago I was visiting Hawaii. I was just wondering if all hawaiian coast line and beaches are supposed to be public? I was over camping at an area by Queen’s bath and there was a huge house. We tried to walk over by the beach by it (since it was supposed to be public) and there was a security guard that wouldnt let us. So were we really allowed to go over there, but the guy (I guess he invented a pacemaker) who owned the house was just being illegal? Please help me out!

All beaches in Hawaii are public. I am not sure if there is a distance on the shoreline that is public though. Maybe something else was going on. You should have called the police.
