For Hawaiian residents?
MAUIBABE asked:
For those of you who were born and raised in Hawaii, do you ever get bored of being there? Where do you vacation to? I’m asking this because my dream is to one day move to Maui but my husband always asks me “I wonder if they get bored of being there” I’m like..why would they? they are in paradise! You guys are soooooo lucky. I’ve been to Maui twice and I fell in love, we’ll be back very soon to visit. I know it can be very expensive but I’m sure there are ways to manage living there. Do you ever get tired of doing the same stuff all the time? like hitting the beach? probably not..lol, i know i wouldn’t..but this question is really for my husband.
you almost brought a tear to my eye. = (
I bet you love your island and you should. I’ve been there like I said and everyone is so kind, well to me at least, it’s so laid back, if i could, i would move my family there in a heartbeat! don’t get me wrong, i’m proud of what I am as well but there’s just something about hawaii that i just love.

okay, i was born and raised on the island of oahu.. and as i was growing up i always wanted to leave the island, just to see the world.. all i knew was the island, it’s people and our lyfestyle and i just yearned to leave the islands.. hawaii is almost like a different country if you think about it.. the lifestyle in hawaii is way different from other lifestyles in the mainland.. anyway, when i was old enough, i moved to the mainland.. i’ve lived in florida, arizona, california, maryland, illinois and washington.. after being away from home, i began to feel really home sick and i realized that i will always be an island boy and that i can’t change myself just because i want to be somewhere else in this world.. i noticed that a lot of us hawaiians don’t know what we have until we leave.. that’s why when us hawaiians move away, we realize that we’re always going to end up coming back home no matter what.. home is where the heart is.. and you can take the boy from the island, but not the island from the boy.. i’ll never forget where i’m from..

I’d love to get off this rock and travel. Im already 19 and i feel havent really lived life at all. I want to see the world.. or at least a part of it before i have to settle into the boring adult routine [sleep..wake up.. work.. sleep..]
but like that first answerer said.. i’ll always be an island girl.
sure, i want to get out of here.. but not permanently. i love my home and cant imagine living anywhere else.
paradise is my home.. and my home is my paradise.

I moved here 33 years ago & hope I can die here. I never get bored. For the most part, my mainland trips are things like business trips, or going to help one of my kids do the college tour or go up to see them graduate. We went to the Grand Canyon last year after my son’s college graduation & it was absolutely amazing. But I was still so glad to get home at the end of my vacation!

i was born and raised on the island of maui and moved to washington because i needed a place to stay. my dad had an open door so i was off on a jet plane. when i was little i always dreamed about traveling away from the islands but i would have NEVER thought i’d move away. i never thought i’d leave my family, friends and the life style i was accustomed to and here i am lying in my living room in washington state. missing my friends and family…missing my home…hawaii! yah, i got bored sometimes but it’s just like getting bored here. i think i get more bored here though because i don’t have my family to hangout with or friends im used to. for vacations we would stay in a hotel on the touristy side of the island, go to vegas, cali, europe…where ever…same thing i do here only difference is instead of driving to the other side of the island to stay in a hotel im flying across the pacific ocean. the first answerer already said my favorite quote “home is where the heart is” and my heart is on an island in the middle of the sea. i hope i can go back one day…all i can do is hope because i don’t think i’ll ever be able to afford it. it’s way too expensive and i don’t wanna live with family all my life. hmmm…i would love to be there right now in the 80 degree weather hanging out at the beach instead of this mid 40 to 50 degree weather. yah, i can visit as often as i can afford it but it’s so not the same! everytime i go back i end up extending my stay and contemplating on the subject of should i go back to washington or stay here…then i come back to washington and im extremely home sick.
hawaii no ka oi!
i’ll end hear. aloha and have a blessed day!

I am a born and raised local girl who wouldn’t imagine living anywhere else!
That being said, of course I wish that I could get in my car and drive to another state just for a road trip or weekend getaway but living on an island makes that hard to do! Our weekend getaways involve either interisland flights to another island or 5+ hour flights to the West Coast.
With the bankruptcy of Aloha and ATA airlines in recent weeks and the soaring price of airline tickets, I know that I won’t be able to afford ANY trip any time soon…….I feel bad for those people that want to come to Hawaii for vacation…..but I feel worse for myself knowing that I can’t afford to go anywhere either. At least on the mainland you can get in your car and drive to some place different…..
Happy travels!
