13 b-day bash help. hawaiian theme.plz help?

~~>Karen here! <3 <~~ asked:

Um… I just turned 13 on August 3. I’ve been really busy during August and i don’t know if i should even make a party, because September would be the only time i could make it. Anyways, Do you think it would be a good idea to do it in September even though my birthday was on August 3? How many weeks in advance should i send the invitations? Should we hire a DJ? What games would be good? What about food? How should i decorate my backyard to make it look like Hawaii? (i have a REALLY big backyard, so I’m willing to use that space, rather then inside) What food would be good with this theme? What about music(cool teen music to dance to) and fun stuff?
Please answer all these questions everyone! I want this party to be BIG (i want this party to be awesome), So any tips and suggestions would be great. I wanted to do my party at the beach, by unfortunately, I don’t live beside the beach or ocean. Anyways, please answer all these questions and give extra suggestions and tips. If you have any stories about your 13 b-day party, that would be great, too!
Thanks!
xoxo

No I dont think it is weird to have your party late. A lot dof my daughters friends had their parties this summer because they did not want to have it during the school year. There is no problem with that.

Here are some luau ideas I suggested before on Answers. If you have are planning a dance, I would get a DJ. As far as the music, goes that all depends on your taste and your friends taste. You may be a rocker, a hip hop person or a top 40 type person, or even a country person. We had a hollywood party with a dance. We had the DJ play hollywood theme music as guests arrive and then gave the DJ a list of songs my daughter and her friends are into. Ask your friends and start making a list.

    INVITE:
Buy flower leis cheap by the dozen at oriental trading and print a one sided invitation card on the computer with cool fonts, colors, hawaii themed. Attach the card to the lei and give the lei as your invite.

Also, oriental trading sells a tropical invitation in a bottle. It is so cute. Check that out too.

    Games:
    Tropical pinata:
You can find fish ones everywhere like target but oriental sells one. Here are some cool ones:

    Limbo:
Oriental trading sells a 3 pc wooden one, a 3 pc inflatable one, or buy costumes.com sells a really cheap inflatable 1 pc limbo stick.

    Super fun Hawaii games:

Hawaii sack races (if people will be in swim suits, you could have the sprinkler going over the race area for more fun):

Translate your friends names in hawaiin: (make a list of all the names you give invites too, so anyone who comes can check the list. Its fun!

    Food:
Fruit Kabobs: Take chucks of fresh pineapple, watermelon, melon, and grapes, strawberries, etc and put them on a kabob skewer stick you can buy at the grocery store.

Or you could make a fruit bowl with all the same fruits cut up, also some sliced orange and use the watermelon as a bowl for a hawaii look:

    Taco Dip:
    2 softened cream cheese.
    1 16oz sour cream
    1 packet taco seasoning.

Mix with mixer. Put in bottom of a cookie sheet. Top with shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and green onions. Use the cheese but you can altered the rest to your taste, maybe add black olives. Make 2 of these. Serve with tostitos scoops.

    PUPPY CHOW
    6 cups Crispix cereal
    1/2 cup peanut butter
    1/2 cup butter
    12 ounce chocolate chips
    2 cups powdered sugar
Melt peanut butter, butter and chocolate chips together in the microwave or on the stove. Stir into cereal. Put powdered sugar in a paper sack. Put cereal mixture in and shake until well coated.

    Silver Dollar Sandwiches:
These are silver dollar rolls made by your bakery in the grocery store. We have them in our store just ready to grab, for large orders call ahead for some. Anyway they are perfect for parties, hand size, neat. You buy shaved ham, beef and turkey. You put lettuce on if you want and some cut cheese into triagles and put on. Also put real butter on on side of the bun inside of course. And have mustard and mayo packets on ice in case anyone wants that.

The best way to make your food area look hawaii is to have a table separate for the food. Have a plastic hawaii themed tablecloth. Put the food on the table. Buy some foil palm trees, pineapple tissue centerpieces, small tiki torches, maybe some fish cut outs and spread them on the table around the food.

    Hawaii drinks:
Look under recipes on this site again, look down on the page under beverages (of course the non-alcohol ones).

    Decorations:
Oriental trading has a great collection of luau items and lots of favors too.

Dollar tree dollar stores sells lots of luau things like a CD, limbo stick, tableware, the foil trees, leis, skirts, torches, etc. etc. All for 1 buck a piece.

    Party cheap.
    U.S. toy Company
    Shindigz

You can get larger luau decorations at stumps prom and shindigz.

Make sure you have a personalized luau banner made.
