My Recommendations:
Hike up Diamond Head
Visit the Honolulu Zoo
Watch the lighting of the Tiki tourches in Waikiki
Shop at the swap meet at Aloha Stadium. You will find the best prices on your Hawaiian shirt and other merchandise there.
Go to the top of Aloha Tower, shop, and dine at the Aloha Tower Marketplace.
Visit the Polynesian Cultural Center
Tour the Dole Pineapple Plantation
Go to Sunset On the Beach for free Hawaiian entertainment and a free movie. There are food vendors there as well.
Eat and shop at the International Market.
Visit or stay at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Believe it or not, it was the tallest building in Honolulu for many years.
Tour the island on the Bus. It’s one of the best ways to see the island.

Here are some great things to do that you might not have done yet:

1. Watch the sunset from Kaena Beach State Park. This is a very non-touristy area and the sunsets can be spectacular.

2. Manoa Falls Trail above Honolulu.

3. Watch the sunset from Puu Ualakaa State Wayside above Honolulu.

4. Kayak from Lanikai Beach over to Mokulua Nui island (do this when the seas are calm). You will see tons of turtles and pretty scenery.

5. Learn about Hawaiian history at the Bishop Museum. Really, it is an amazing museum telling the history and culture of the islands. Since you are living there, you might as well learn something about it.

6. Go to Kawaiahao Church in Honolulu to hear some Hawaiian.

7. Eat at Little Village Noodle House in Chinatown, then explore Chinatown. Honolulu has the oldest Chinatown in the U.S.

8. Sometime in the summer go to Koko Crater Garden near Hanauma Bay. The plumerias are beautiful there.

9. Don't miss Foster Garden near downtown Honolulu. It is really fascinating to see all the exotic plants and huge trees there.

10. Go to the north shore for some shave ice. It's totally different from a snow cone and MUCH better. Amazing! Matsumoto's is really good.

That should get you started. There are a lot more great ideas at

and click on Oahu.

Have fun!

Gee.. you live in Hawaii and you're bored??? Dang girl, get out of the house and live a little.

Lots of stuff to do on Oahu. Shopping of course, hikes, restaurants, a stroll through Waikiki once in a while just to laugh at the tourists. Go to Pali look out and freeze your **** off on a tropical island. Take some courses at UH of UOP. Volunteer at the Queens Hospital. Take up a local kine hobby... like lei making, quilting, paddling, diving, etc. Travel to the neighbor islands.
Get out of the house and off the base. Make some local friends. You're in one of the most beautiful places on earth, make the most of it.

Here are the things I use to do, when my husband was stationed there too for 3 years we lived there that long & I got so bored after awhile but here's my list:

-shopping @ Ala Moana in Waikiki, Pearlridge in Pearl City, Windward Mall in Kane'ohe, Waipahu Outlet.

-go hiking @ Diamond Head

-Xtreme Parasailing in Waikiki, we did this on our honeymoon & it was awesome! stayed @ Hale Koa.

-try eating @ different restaurants, every other weekend we would drive up to North Shore, stop by @ Giovanni's Shrimp Truck.

-Swap Meet @ Aloha Stadium in Aiea during the weekends.

-Germaine's Luau, we attended this Luau twice.

-Go to the movies @ Ward Centre, go bowling, play pool, water park, Dinner Cruise in Waikiki.

Other than that, we were either shopping @ the Exchange, Commissary or over @ a friends house for a BBQ or get together. If you have enough money, you can go visit the other neighbor islands, our favorites are Kauai, Maui & The Big Island. That's what we did :) The flights were cheap last year it was only $20 per way on Go! Airlines or Aloha Airlines but I don't know if the price changed this year, most likely it did and Aloha Airlines is no longer operating. Check with Go! airlines.

There is so much to do. Go snorkiling. Do things out at the beach that you may never have before.
Its not even hard to just get a plane to The Big Island, and you can visit Volcano National Park, and get upclose and personal with a active volcano.
It's really interesting.
There is alot too do so you shouldnt be bored.

-last call varies, but I wouldn't try entering a club at 3am or later

-average about $5 for drinks

-Ocean Club (made top 100 US clubs list), Pipeline Cafe

-for you, pants and collared shirt is good attire

-drinking in public is illegal in Hawaii

-on Waikiki beach you see a lot of locals, esp surfers and swimmers, and those working at the hotels and shops

Hey guys, here are a few clubs you might want to take a look at. Last call is somewhere around 2, but watch out for the hookers when you leave the clubs they can be pretty agressive. Mixed drinks at some of the clubs can be as much as 10-12 dollars so I suggest getting your buzz on in your room. The ABC stores and you will know them well when you get here have normal priced alcohol so get some and get tanked then head out! Scruples is a decent place to go dancing and drinking but expensive on the drinking side of things. It's small but you'll get your close up and personal time with the ladies. Anyhow you should have a blast it is truely a great place to go! I have lots of other info in my posts from way back that have tons of info if you feel like searching for them. I use to live up on Happy Valley Rd, in Glendale a few years ago. Loved Phoenix and there were some pretty cool bars down in Tempe. Ok have a great trip!

Aloha!

Pink Cadillac is where most Japanese gals hang out and is located in Waikiki on Ena Road!
Zanzabar in Waikiki it's in the Waikiki Trade Center on Kuhio Avenue.
Pipeline Cafe in Honolulu located behind Dixie Grill.
The Ocean's Club located in the Restaurant Row Shopping Center.
The Mai Tai Bar located in Ala Moana Shopping Center located across from Bubba Gump 2nd floor from Shirokiya. The food & drink menu is awesome!
Rumours nightclub is located in the Ala Moana Hotel.
The Galaxy Club located at 1739 Kalakaua Avenue across the street from the back half of Hard Rock Cafe in Honolulu.

Have fun! ..................

i just camp out and bring it with me,,,,if a place dont allow dogs, they arent worth going to. be careful, they allow HR866 which means that certain ethnicities (filipinos) still can eat dogs in hawaii.....

State Rep. Glenn Wakai has introduced a bill, HR866, that addresses the issue of eating dog meat. The bill makes it illegal to kill, distribute, or sell dogs or cats for the purpose of eating them.

However, the bill does not outlaw the consumption of dogs and cats. Furthermore, it only addresses dogs and cats that were stolen, or were strays. It doesn't prevent someone from breeding and cultivating their own dogs and cats for culinary uses.

The preamble of the bill states:
Currently, a person may consume dog meat in Hawaii if it is from the person's own dog and it has been killed in a humane fashion. It is illegal, however, to steal someone else's dog and a violation of animal control laws to seize a stray dog and not surrender it to an animal control officer. Yet, there is no law specifically prohibiting the sale, purchase, or other distribution of stray or stolen dogs or cats for human consumption, whether humanely slaughtered or not.

The legislature further finds that, while the killing and sale of dogs for food is not a common practice in Hawaii, the Honolulu police department and the Hawaiian Humane Society have recently received reports of the illegal seizure and gruesome slaughter of dogs for meat. There have also been reports on Oahu of people selling stolen or stray dogs for consumption. The purpose of this Act is to prohibit the killing and sale, purchase, or other distribution of stray or stolen dogs or cats for human consumption.
While eating dogs and cats is perhaps an accepted practice in other countries, it certainly isn't here in the United States. This practice needs to be stopped in the United States before we have a problem of pets being stolen and stir-fried.

However, there are some people in Hawaii that are upset with this legislation, not necessarily because it threatens a lifestyle, but because it creates a negative stereotype against certain races. According to an article from the Associated Press:
State Rep. Alex Sonson says the proposed measure is a reaction to hearsay and would harm the image of Filipinos, Koreans and other Asian ethnic groups who make up the majority of the state's population.

"It perpetuates this myth that every Filipino is eating it," Sonson said. "But they're not."

Frank Wu, dean of Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, believes the issue of eating dog is stressed "to caricature and condemn particular populations," namely Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese and other Asians. Wu wrote about dog-eating in his book "Yellow: Race in America Beyond Black and White."

Why not hiking? If you're not in good shape, your marine can always carry you! And it's amazing the things you can discover on your own together when you are hiking in areas you haven't been. Bored in Hawaii? NO reason for that.

I just returned home from my fifth trip to Hawaii. It is so awesome you'll love it. One of the most popular bars on Waikiki beach is a place called Dukes. It is on the ground floor of the Outrigger Canoe Club hotel. Dukes is a casual sports bar type restaurant. Beers in Waikiki are usually about $5 and mai tai's are about $10. For some cheaper drinks and more local flavor visit the Treetop lounge in the International Market place (it is up stairs above all the vendors). Be careful about drinking on the beach. It is allowed at hotel beach bars and county parks, but not allowed at state parks. The atmosphere all over Waikiki is very laid back and a pretty much anything goes sort of attitude. There are plenty of locals, but most of them are friendly and happy to give advice to tourists. You will see 40 year old men skate boarding down the city side walk as well as professionals who get up at 5:00 am to surf before work.
Last call in Hawaii is 2:00 am.

Last call is usually about 2 AM, some locations close at 4 AM.

Beers better figure around $4.00-$4.50, Drinks $5.00-$7.50 depending on what you're looking for and where you go.

Not sure what kind of bars/clubs you're looking for so can't quite answer...dance club, strip club, lounge? Either way, check with the hotel desk, they'll know the safe ones...

Attire, jeans and t-shirt for casual, slacks & polo shirts for other...not much need for anything else...remember your swim trunks! No Speedos!!!

Can't drink on the public beaches, hotel pool areas are good.

Be careful, like anywhere else in the world. You are a visitor and although this is the Aloha State, if you're cocky, arogant, loud, or draw too much attention to yourself, you will get into trouble. Enjoy the sites and the people but stay humble and respect the culture and traditions...you'll be okay. If someone confronts you, apologize and move on, it's not worth the hastle and grief while on vacation.
